Salo, or the 120 days of sodom.

Salo, directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini was another first watch of the year. Another that I liked and one I felt morally wrong for liking.
I had to question myself, why was this truly made? Who and what was I doing a favour by liking it?

There were some thoughts I had, mostly that I'm not a pervert. I'm not going to say I liked it just because it had naked people.
I think about Terayama's Laura.

So I had to force myself to find reasons, to give it defense. One that goes beyond the eyes and the
minds of the ordinary viewer.

Culture is propagated through media, That is perhaps one thing that you don't need to read up on to confirm for there are examples of it
in day to day life.

There was a scene in the circle of shit when Renata calls out to God and upon hearing that, one of the masters decides to shit and forces her to eat it.
The idea for it comes from the story of one of the ladies. It all starts by the masters interest but that isn't the main thing.
There was a girl who kills herself and there's a picture of Mary, why would it be there if they were so against religion?
My guess was simply to show a change of culture in a very direct way, eat shit or die. But also, this shit is your new faith, you can't say its worse
than your old one.

God, what a simple analysis.

I also thought it could be to show how faith was forced onto you, how beliefs you looked down at were (also) forced on you. Religion is an example but it could
apply to practically anything.

I also want to entertain the idea that it could be children because it means, or as a way to illustrate that it's children that lead countries, who lead nations.
To corrupt the minds of children, is in part a way to corrupt a nation.

Something like this was shown in Terayama's Emperor Tomato Ketchup. Kids are under the rule of adults just as animals are to humans. All the things that they know,
all the beliefs they had are a reflection of the beliefs and ideas spewed by the ones around them, in a sense children are truly blameless. Limits and reality are
only something that adults know of. Therefore, for these adults to condemn one thing but to allow the other is common, it is normal.

Maybe what's even more important is the hypocrisy, The rules only apply to the kids. They can't be intimate in private while the adults can. Isn't it clear how
children act? Like children?

The circle of blood was an eternally beautiful frama. For the need to protect oneself always beats any other form of action. Any act done for self is almost holy,
for one declares themselves to be worthy of more, of a life next to the person they say the name of.

Snitch.

A whole circle, one after the other, more and more proof that something happened.

Comical.

Humans are fickle but it had to say more of them than of the other. The redhead who snitched on eva after relying on her so gravely.

Artistic.

Umberto danced, the boys talked about their girlfriends, while while those others were dying, music played to cover the sound of screams.
Easy when it's not you.

What do you get from this? Be careful of what you eat. All art is propaganda.
